Biography

Benedicta "Dick" Du-Baladad is the Founding Partner and CEO of Du-Baladad and Associates (BDB Law). Before this, she worked with the Philippine Tax Authority where she stayed for 17 years working on tax administration policies and operational efficiencies as well on legal matters. She then moved to public practice as the head of the tax department of a reputable auditing firm where she handled the tax advisory, transfer pricing, international tax advisory, tax assessments and reclaim, tax advocacy and tax compliance of local conglomerates and multinational clients in various industries. She is now on her 16th year of public tax practice.

Recent matter highlights

Successfully defended a tax assessment of more than 100 billion Philippine pesos issued to a big local conglomerate involving both direct and indirect taxes; A lead consultant in the government's ongoing tax reform for capital income (interest, dividend, and capital gains) and the taxation of financial services; Lead partner in a transfer pricing study for a group of companies in the financial sector; Lead adviser/partner on cases won with the Tax Court.

Biography

Dennis Dimagiba heads Quisumbing Torres's Tax Practice Group. He advises multinational companies with Philippine operations on general tax planning, and represents clients in tax and customs controversies. He also advises private banks on tax and legal issues pertaining to high net worth individuals.

Recent matter highlights

  • Advised one of the largest US-based electronic commerce retail companies on the following matters: (a) Philippine tax implications and entitlement to incentives of a new entity that will provide certain services to Philippine customers, and (b) Philippine tax implications of new product offerings.

  • Advised and assisted one of the largest multinational pharmaceutical companies in contesting a tax assessment relating to the sale of the shares of stock of a subsidiary, involving the difficult issue of valuation of shares.

  • Advised and represented an industry-leading manufacturer of water systems equipment and machinery in connection with the deficiency tax assessments issued by the Bureau of Internal Revenue for taxable year 2004.
