Winnie Byanyima is a new entry this year |
Winnie Byanyima has made this year's Global Tax 50 list for her influential role in highlighting the impact of taxation (and tax policymakers) on human rights and inequality.
The human rights advocate and globally-recognised expert on women's rights has made an active contribution to the debate over global tax policy issues, particularly during the World Bank and IMF annual meeting in Lima, Peru, which focused on inequality and the endorsement of the OECD's BEPS package.
"Corporate tax dodgers deprive Latin America of half its potential tax revenue," says Byanyima. "This is immoral and unsustainable. Finance ministers must crack down on them if they are serious about tackling poverty and inequality."
"Extreme inequality isn't just a moral wrong. We know that it hampers economic growth and it threatens the private sector's bottom line," she says.
