Carmen Caro is a senior manager at Deloitte Abogados (Deloitte Spain), based in the Madrid office. Carmen has more than 14 years of experience dedicated to customs, fiscal and financial implications from an indirect tax point of view in cross-border transactions, with special focus on supply chain structures. Isabel López-Bustamante is the leading partner of the Spanish VAT practice of Deloitte Abogados (Deloitte Spain).

She has 18 years of professional experience in VAT & Customs business advice. Her main clients are local and multinational companies operating in the hotel and leisure and retail and distribution industries.

Isabel has a strong international profile, having participated in many transnational VAT projects and their Spanish local implementation for Spanish and foreign entities. She also renders recurrent local advice and VAT management, particularly assistance in dealings with the Spanish General Directorate for VAT topics and in VAT inspections.

She regularly participates in the development of internal and external VAT publications and acts as a speaker at conferences and seminars. She is actively involved in local and international training and technical seminars of the firm.

Isabel teaches VAT at several universities and business schools, such as the Instituto de Empresa, the University Carlos III and the University of Navarra.

She has a degree in law from the Universidad of Deusto, a master's degree in business legal advice by the Instituto de Empresa and a Women Executive Programme by the business school ESADE.

Belén Palao is a senior manager with Deloitte Abogados (Deloitte Spain), based in the Madrid office. She leads the Customs & Excise duties team, and works alongside the EMEA Global Trade and Customs Services group. Belén joined Deloitte Spain in November 2002. Before joining Deloitte, she worked for a Spanish law firm in the tax department.

Belén has experience in international and EU VAT matters (cross-border transactions), excise duties (tobacco, alcohol and hydrocarbons) and Customs. She has been involved in the AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) pilot project developed by the Spanish tax authorities as a team leader, and has taken part in several studies carried out by the European Commission.

Belén is a specialist in the design of Customs and VAT structures, such as the implementation of Customs and VAT warehouses. She also specialises in the review and improvement of supply chain structures from an indirect tax point of view.

Belén has been a lecturer at the Club de la Energía since 2007 and has written several articles for various tax publications.

Marcos Río is a principal associate at Deloitte Abogados' (Deloitte Spain) VAT practice. He has a law degree and LLM on taxation from the Instituto de Empresas in Madrid, and a Certificate on International Business & Finance from New York University (NYU).

He has 10 years of professional experience in providing tax advice in the Deloitte member firm network. Marcos has worked in both the Spanish firm and the US firm, gaining invaluable international experience. He has advised many foreign and Spanish multinational corporations on domestic and international transactions including M&A, corporate restructuring and cross-border VAT planning.

Jaime Rodríguez Correa is a senior manager with the VAT practice of Deloitte Abogados (Deloitte Spain) in Madrid. He joined Deloitte in September 1998.

Jaime has more than 15 years of professional experience in tax matters, with the last 13 years spent with Deloitte Spain.

He has served many of the largest Spanish and international corporate groups, helping them to optimise VAT treatment both in local and international structures. Jaime has rendered VAT advice on cross-border transactions, international supply chain structures and VAT grouping, among others. He is a lawyer with a great deal of experience in VAT audits and litigation processes.

Jaime authors and co-authors VAT publications and has spoken at many conferences and seminars. He teaches VAT at the Master of Tax Advising programme at the Comillas University, University of Navarra and works periodically with the Instituto de Empresa.

Jaime has a master's degree in taxation as well as a law degree, and has been affiliated to the Bar Association of Madrid since 1996.
