Kelly Phillips Erb, better known to some as ‘Taxgirl’, has made a name for herself as a writer as well as an expert in US and international tax matters. Her blog and podcast have become the go-to site for individuals and businesses worried about tax compliance.
Erb’s writing in 2022 has addressed everything from the state of gender equality in the tax profession to the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) controversial attempt to use of selfies for identity verification. In the latter case, the IRS decided to drop the photo requirement and give up on facial recognition technology.
Erb is a managing shareholder of the Erb Law Firm, based in Pennsylvania, where she focuses on her primary practice areas including trusts, estates and international tax planning, as well as tax controversy. Originally Taxgirl was supposed to just complement Erb’s work as a lawyer.
Erb was part of the early blogosphere when Taxgirl was launched in 2004. Taxgirl was a way of providing existing and potential clients with useful information on tax in the days before tax news alerts became widespread. But over time it has become a platform in its own right.
Almost 20 years later the site is still thriving with the addition of a podcast in 2020. Her writing has become a key part of the tax world and she shows no sign of slowing down going into 2023.
